My name is John Hawkins. I live in the Las Vegas area and am an avid fan of Texas Hold’em. I have long since considered myself more of a tournament style player, but have recently been leaning more towards the cash games. My bankroll is pretty small so I play pretty small stakes.
Online Poker: I play online several times a week exclusively at Full Tilt Poker. I play strictly No Limit Hold’em and I typically play .10/.25 or .25/.50 cash games. I like to play 2 or 3 tables at a time as I’ve found that it best suits my ADD brain. I also play in a weekly online private tourney Tuesday nights at 7:00 PM Pacific. Live Tournament Play: I enjoy playing live tournaments around Las Vegas. I play a several times a month in the 7:00 PM , $62.00 buy-in tournament at Sahara Casino. I have had quite a few cashes at Sahara, including taking first place, twice. I also enjoy playing in a monthly home tournament with a steady group of a dozen or so friends.
Live Cash Play: As I’ve said, my bankroll is pretty small, so I typically play $1/$2 No Limit at Green Valley Ranch. I don’t play live on a regular basis, but have found the room at Green Valley to be very comfortable. They regularly have 3 or 4 low limit tables going with a $200 max buy-in. This is right up my alley. I can go there with 2 buy-ins in my pocket and if I lose them both I can leave and not feel the sting too badly. It’s a great way to get experience at the table without risking too much money.
Away from poker, I work for an internet marketing company in Las Vegas. I’m married with 2 teenage children. We have 3 dogs (Irish setter, Chihuahua and a Chihuahua/min-pin mix). I enjoy PHP programming, running, ice hockey and tattoos.
